Kylian Mbappé, the captain of France, has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after the top striker left Paris Saint-Germain.
The 2024 Champions League winner made a very brief statement: “Real Madrid and Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
At the age of 25, Mbappé enjoyed his highest scoring season with Paris Saint-Germain with 44 goals and finished as the top scorer of the French league for the sixth consecutive season, with 27 goals.
Real Madrid said on its website that the Whites have strengthened their squad with a top striker with whom he won the World Cup in 2018 and the Nations League in 2021.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Mbappé clinched the Golden Boot with eight goals and, after his hat-trick in the final, became the all-time top scorer in a World Cup final — with four goals.
During his time at PSG, Mbappé became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals.
This season alone Mbappé won the league title, the French Cup and the French Super Cup. During his seven years at the club, he has won 17 trophies — League (6), French Cup (4), French Super Cup (5) and League Cup (2).
The young phenomenon has signed a five-year contract at the Bernabeu worth €15m (£12.8m; $16.3m) per year after tax.
Mbappé has already joined the French national team practice camp ahead of Euro 2024.
He hopes for more glory in the European Championships before linking up with his new teammates at the Santiago Bernabeu.
