Why is Derek Jeter so famous?

By the end of his historic 20-year career in baseball in 2014, Derek Jeter established himself as one of the most respected men to ever have played the game.

Recognizing his on-field accomplishments and impact on the game, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2020.

With a knack for leadership both on and off the field, Jeter made a second career — leading a variety of successful businesses and investments, while still maintaining ties with baseball.

Jeter served as part-owner and CEO of MLB’s Miami Marlins, overseeing the day-to-day for both the business and baseball operations for the team from 2017-2022.

He was the first African-American to serve in the position for any Major League baseball team in the history of the sport and prioritized diversity in his front office and coaching hires.

His documentary, “The Captain,” was released in July 2022 on ESPN.

He founded The Players’ Tribune, a subsidiary company of Minute Media, where he serves as a Board member.

Jeter and Simon & Schuster in November 2013 announced the Jeter Publishing imprint, which has produced a number of The New York Times Best Sellers including the first children’s book — “The Contract”.

As a five-time World Series champion and a member of baseball’s exclusive 3,000-hit club, Jeter earned a number of accolades in his career.

They include the World Series MVP in 2000, 14 Major League Baseball All-Star selections, 5 Gold Gloves, 5 Silver Sluggers, AL Rookie of the Year in 1996, and the Roberto Clemente Award in 2009.

He was also awarded the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award in 2009.

The Yankees retired his jersey No. 2 and unveiled a plaque in the famous Monument Park in 2017 recognizing his historic career with the team.

Jeter now lives in Miami with his wife, Hannah Jeter, and with his three daughters and one son.
