Why is Gypsy Rose so popular?

Gypsy Rose Blanchard came to the limelight for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in 2015.
Blanchard’s case sparked tabloid interest after reports said Dee Dee had kept her daughter prisoner since the time of her birth.
Blanchard spent her childhood and early adulthood thinking that she suffered from several diseases including blood cancer, muscular dystrophy, and asthma.
However, she was rather a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a rare syndrome where a caregiver fakes illness in someone to garner attention or sympathy.
Dee Dee went as far as to make her daughter use a wheelchair and a feeding tube and get many unnecessary surgeries.
An investigation revealed in 2015 that she convinced her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, who she met on a Christian dating site, to kill her mother as a way to escape the abuse.
Blanchard, who served over eight years for helping to kill her abusive mother and was released from prison in December 2023, announced Tuesday that she is expecting to become a mother herself.
Blanchard shared the news on social media that she was expecting her first child with former fiancé, Ken Urker.
The two met and got engaged for four years while she was serving time in prison in 2018, but they parted ways in 2022.
Soon after the breakup, Blanchard married Louisiana teacher Ryan Anderson in July 2022 in a prison wedding ceremony and split in March.
While serving time, several networks produced her story — “Mommy Dead and Dearest” (HBO), “The Act” (Hulu), and “Gypsy’s Revenge” (Discovery).
Since her release she has been she has been promoting her documentary, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.”
