Brian McCardie, ‘Rob Roy’ actor, dies at 59

Scottish actor Brian McCardie, who played Tommy Hunter in the BBC series “Line of Duty, died “suddenly at home” on Sunday.

The actor had portrayed the younger brother of Liam Neeson’s titular hero in Michael Caton-Jones’ historical drama Rob Roy.

His sister Sarah McCardie announced the death on her X account, formerly known as Twitter, reports the Hollywood reporter.

“We announce the demise of Brian James McCardie,59, beloved brother, son, uncle, and dear friend. Brian suddenly passed away at home on Sunday(April 28). Brian, a passionate and wonderful actor on stage and screen, loved his work and touched many lives,” said Sarah McCardie in her X post.

 “We love Brian and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts,” the statement reads.

The family will announce funeral arrangements in the days ahead. “We would ask for privacy at this time as a family.”

United Agents McCardie’s representation also expressed shock following the death and deep saddened by the tragic news of Brian’s sudden death.

Born on January 22, 1965, Brian was raised near Glasgow. He appeared on the BBC soap opera EastEnders in one of his earlier roles.

The actor went on to play gang lord turned police informant Tommy Hunter in the first two seasons of the BBC drama Line of Duty (2012-14).

He recently showed up on such other British series as Time, Crime, The Tower, and Domina and the miniseries Rebellion.

Brian recorded high marks for his emotional performance as Alasdair MacGregor in Rob Roy in 1995.
