Based on Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton Season 3 of Netflix and Shondaland’s Bridgerton watches the romance build between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) from friends to lovers.

While their book comes fourth in the series, after Benedict’s love story, the show moves up their installment in the order of Bridgerton sibling romances, according to Deadline.

Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) love drama intertwines more heavily in the expanded two-part season, with Part 1 released on May 16 on Netflix and Part 2 scheduled for June 13.

Ahead of the first part’s launch, showrunner Jess Brownell, producer Shonda Rhimes and author Julia Quinn confirmed that an important scene would feature in the show where Colin cuts his hand.

The scene makes Colin consider Penelope as someone who is more than just platonic as she bandages his hand.

She had been sneaking and reading his diary about his travels, which makes angry and later brings him to cut his hand.

Changes have been made to plotlines, backstories, marriage statuses and many more, even those hovering around Lady Whistledown’s identity include characters different from the book.

Here are some of the major differences between Bridgerton Season 3 and Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton (spoilers):

– Eloise doesn’t know Penelope is in fact Lady Whistledown

– Cressida Cowper is already married

– Eloise and Penelope have may more marriage market seasons

– There is another fourth Featherington sister

– Francesca’s story doesn’t overlap

– Penelope doesn’t get any offer for help from Colin in finding a suitor

– Lady Danbury’s brother doesn’t visit town and the Mondrich narrative doesn’t expand.
