Grammy-winning singer Darius Rucker was arrested on a minor drug offence in Williamson County, Tennessee on Thursday.

Rucker, 57, was charged with simple possession, casual exchange, and violation of registration law.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody around 1:00 pm on Thursday. All the charges brought against him are misdemeanours.

The country star is no longer in custody as he was released on a $10,500 bond on Thursday about an hour later after his arrest, the sheriff’s office said.

Mark Puryear, Rucker’s attorney, issued a statement after his client’s arrest, saying that he [Darius Rucker] is fully collaborating with authorities related to the charges.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE that Rucker was arrested on two counts of simple possession of a controlled substance and one count of a violation of Tennessee’s vehicle registration law.

Authorities are yet to identify the controlled substance.

In October, Rucker released his most recent album, Carolyn’s Boy, which is a tribute to his late mother.

Rucker built success in the country music industry after leading the American rock band Hootie & the Blowfish for more than three decades.

In 2008, Darius Rucker released his first country album and went on to have four number-one albums on the Billboard Country chart.

He will return to the band for their “Summer Camp with Trucks” tour with stops across the US in 2024.

In December, the singer was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
