Mac dies at 33 from cancer chordoma

“Forrest Gump” star Gary Sinise is mourning as his son McCanna ‘Mac’ Sinise died from a rare form of cancer at the age of 33.

“Mac” Sinise, a multi-instrumental musician, breathed his last on January 5 after battling a cancer called Chordoma, Gary Sinise confirmed the demise in a tribute posted to his foundation’s website on Tuesday.

Gary Sinise also detailed his son’s years-long battle with the disease as well as his tireless commitment to making music.

Mac recorded his album “Resurrection and Revival” in the final months of his life, also said Gary Sinise on his Instagram page.

Mac lost his battle with cancer when the album went to press, wrote Gary Sinise.

He passed away at 3:25pm on January 5 2024 and was laid to rest on January 23, said Gary.

“We [family] are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can, like any family experiencing such a loss. For those who have suffered a similar loss, my heart goes out to all. It is very difficult losing a child,” he added.

According to the Hollywood reporter, Moira, wife of Gary Sinise, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in June in 2028. Just two months later, Mac was diagnosed with cancer Chordoma in August of the same year.

The Forrest Gump actor said Moira went into remission and has been cancer-free since after months of treatment, but his son’s cancer continued to spread, even after several surgeries.

Mac, who had a passion for music from a young age, learned to play the drums at 9 years old.

Later, he graduated from the USC Thornton School of Musicand also studied songwriting and composition from there.

Mac also played piano and harmonica and served as drummer in Gary’s band the Lt. Dan Band occasionally.
