Regarded as one of the preeminent rock musicians of our time, Leonard Albert Kravitz is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor.
His childhood was split between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles, which led to an early passion for music. He watched the Jackson 5 perform live and was inspired by multiple genres.
Born on May 26, 1964, to TV news producer Sy Kravitz and actress Roxie Roker in New York, Kravitz was introduced to the entertainment industry at an early age.
His debut album “Let Love Rule” was released in 1989, marking the opening of curtains to a musical career filled with a blend of rock, hard rock, funk, soul, reggae, and R&B.
Kravitz has several hit singles such as “It Ain’t Over ’til It’s Over” (1991) and “Again” (2000), “Let Love Rule” (1989), “Always on the Run” (1991), “Are You Gonna Go My Way” (1993), “Fly Away” (1998), and “American Woman” (1999).
He has nine Grammy nominations, of which, he won four Grammys for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance from 1999 to 2002, breaking the record for most wins in that category.
Besides being a vocalist, he plays the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and piano.
Aside from his musical career, Kravitz was in films such as Precious (2009) and the first two The Hunger Games (2012–13).
Kravitz Design Inc. is a New York-based company founded by him in 2003.
For a time, Kravitz became a furniture designer in 2015, launching a collection of furniture products.
He married Lisa Bonet for a while, with whom he has a daughter, Zoë Kravitz.
Kravitz is also the author of the book Flash, which portrays unique rock photography. He even has a memoir, Let Love Rule.
In 2018, Kravitz released his 11th full-length album, Raise Vibration.
He is the brand ambassador and global face for YSL’s Y cologne. He was recently selected as a 2023 Hollywood Walk of Fame inductee.
