James Wan is one of the most talented horror directors of the 21st century who directed and created The Conjuring Universe.
Born on 26 February 1977, in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, James is of Chinese and Malaysian descent.
His parents moved to Perth, Australia when James was seven years old.
James graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1999.
James along with one of his buddies, a fellow filmmaker Leigh Whannell, started writing a horror script for fun based on their dreams and what triggered or evoked their fear.
An excerpt of that script went on to become the script or the idea for Saw.
The duo along with some other actors and music director Charlie Clouser shot the low-budget movie in one room where Whannell was the protagonist.
The movie became a superhit in the US and garnered praise from both critics and audiences for the gritty, gory horror that it presented, which was one-of-a-kind at the time.
The film’s success led to Saw II and the rest of the Saw franchise.
Following the success of Saw, there were a few setbacks with some flops such as Dead Silence, and Death Sentence until James turned it around once again with the Insidious series.
Ultimately it was the Conjuring movies that brought lasting fame to the director turned producer.
