The Stanford Cardinal football team, representing Stanford University in college football, fired coach Troy Taylor.
The decision comes a week after Taylor maltreated female staff members and tried to have an NCAA compliance officer removed after she warned him of rules violations.
According to documents obtained by ESPN from investigations into Taylor’s conduct, over 20 current and former staffers cooperated with the two investigations that included complaints against Taylor.
According to ESPN, both investigations determined that Taylor’s treatment of employees was inconsistent with Stanford’s standards.
As per the second investigation, Taylor retaliated against a compliance staffer. By “seeking her removal from her assigned duties,” the employees found seven minor NCAA violations.
In a statement, Stanford football general manager Andrew Luck said he has been thoroughly assessing the entire Stanford football program since beginning his role as general manager.
He said that in recent days, they paid significant attention to Stanford investigations related to Coach Taylor, an American football coach and former player.
The general manager, in consultation with university leadership, decided that Coach Taylor is not the right coach to lead the football program.
Taylor has been informed today and the change is effective immediately, he said.
It is not clear whether Stanford will have to pay out the remainder of Taylor’s contract.
Born on April 5, 1968, Taylor began his journey as the head football coach at Stanford University in 2023.
As a quarterback, he played professionally for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL).
The Jets, in the fourth round of the 1990 NFL draft, selected Taylor, who played college football at California-Berkeley.
