Two seasons dropped in quick succession and now fans are hungry for the third. This could be around the corner towards the end of 2023.

Slow Horses is an Adaptation of Mick Herron’s Popular Books

The spy thriller written by Morwenna Banks, Will Smith, Jonny Stockwood, and Mark Denton is based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels. There are eight main books in the series already, with more to come.

According to a report from PIA, ebook sales are on the up, reading is a widespread hobby, and there has been a trend of social media influencers recommending books. With Slow Horses becoming a streaming sensation, many of these people are now recommending Herron’s books.

Reading the books first arguably makes the series even more enjoyable. The characters are extremely well written on the page, and readers get a sense of their own perspectives when Herron focuses on each of them. It’s amazing to see these diverse protagonists brought to life on screen, and Slow Horses has some incredible actors capable of doing them justice.

The best of the bunch is Gary Oldman as the leader of the Slow Horses, Jackson Lamb. The slovenly MI5 legend has bad habits, but his intellect and wit transcend all the other players in the stories. The Guardian described the series as “a cut above,” and commented how every scene has a “finesse of quality or invention.”

Season Three and Four Will be Filmed Back to Back

Each season of Slow Horses is six episodes, and it covers a different one of Herron’s novels. The first was Slow Horses, and this was followed by Dead Lions in season two. The original novels were released in 2010 and 2013 respectively and were followed by Real Tigers in 2016.

The latter will be the inspiration for season three, and the Slow Horses will be mixed up in an intricate plot between two opposing factions of MI5. For fans of the series, it’s a great idea to read the book first in anticipation. There hasn’t been an official release date for the show yet, but it will hopefully come soon.

Season one was released in April 2022, with season two coming in December of the same year. That’s only a six month gap between the offerings, which means that many are hoping the next season could drop around June this year.

That hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, the good news is that seasons three and four are being filmed back to back. Therefore, the fourth season could hit screens soon after the third.
