Eminem returned to the rap scene with “Houdini,” his first single of 2024, on Friday.

The rap genius made an attempt to turn back the clock with the single and his early 2000s Slim Shady alter ego.

“Houdini” serves as the start of the rollout for the musician heading into his The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) album, which is scheduled for release this summer.

This would be his 12th album and follows Music to Be Murdered By (2020), which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.

Eminem had originally announced the plans for the album shortly after his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit, a city he’s originally from.

He teased his own version of an “Unsolved Mysteries” episode with a cameo from 50 Cent.

However, it was actually Dr. Dre who made the revelation about Em’s upcoming album during a late-night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March.

Eminem, in his superhero-themed music video for “Houdini,” is a star-studded affair where he tried to recreate “Without Me,” which was released back in 2022.

Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg, and the rapper’s three children make cameos in the video.

Eminem has never been shy about sparking controversies and name-dropping his celebrity peers throughout his career, from Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera.

The rapper usually leans into the shock value of the song, which is still the case on “Houdini,” as the provocative artist mentions pop-culture personalities such as RuPaul and hip-hop staples like Megan Thee Stallion and Dr. Dre. The other celebrities Eminem references on “Houdini” are R. Kelly, Paul Rosenberg, Jimmy Iovine, Sherri Papini, and of course, Harry Houdini.
