India beat Pakistan by six runs in a low-scoring but tense T20 World Cup Group A encounter in New York on Sunday and Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-14 secured the Player of the Match award.
Pakistan bowled out India for 119 in 19 overs, as Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took three wickets each at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, reports Reuters.
Rishabh Pant top-scored for India with 42 off 31 balls, while Muhammad Rizwan top-scored with 31 in the chase.
More than 34,000 fans were present at the temporary arena despite the early rain.
The result raised India to the top of Group A with two wins from their opening two matches, while Pakistan have zero points from two defeats following their upset by the hosts — the United States.
Winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bowl first on a two-paced pitch where rain interruptions made things challenging for India who struggled to move past it and were dismissed for 119.
In response, Mohammad Rizwan set the platform for the chase with 31 runs on the scorecard, but Pakistan fell short after losing wickets periodically. While India’s Jasprit Bumrah (3-14) made a crucial development by bowling 15 dot balls.
Naseem Shah smashed two boundaries toward the end, which brought some ray of hope, but Arshdeep Singh ensured there were no fireworks as India held the game for a slim win.
