Texas Longhorns has sacked head coach Rodney Terry from the school and is set to recruit American college basketball coach Sean Miller as his replacement.

The formal announcement will come soon about the new head coach and outgoing coach, reports ESPN.in.

After taking over midseason for Chris Beard, Terry led the Longhorns to the Elite Eight in 2023.

Later, he went to the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons.

On Wednesday, Texas lost to Xavier 86-80 in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.

In a statement, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said despite the difficult decision, they put a great deal of thought, consideration and discussion.

As head coach, Terry had led their program in a first-class manner, and had accomplished some great things.

Terry served as the head coach at Fresno State from 2011-18 and then spent three seasons as the head coach at UTEP from 2018-21.

When Beard was hired in 2021, Terry returned to Texas.

When Beard was fired after a felony domestic violence arrest, Terry took over as the school’s interim head coach in December 2022.

Before making a run to the Elite Eight that year, Terry guided Texas to the Big 12 tournament championship and a 2-seed in the NCAA tournament.

He agreed to a five-year deal to become the school’s long-term head coach following the Longhorns’ defeat to Miami in the regional final.

According to the Austin American-Statesman report, Xavier’s Sean Miller will be the Longhorns’ new coach and will replace Rodney Terry.

After a year out of college basketball, Miller, who just ended the third season of his second stint at Xavier, returned to the school ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Miller was at Arizona from 2009 but he was fired at the end of the 2021 season.
