Pop star Justin Timberlake was charged with drunken driving early Tuesday in a village in New York’s Hamptons.
Police said he was detained after running a stop sign and veering out of his lane in the posh seaside summer retreat.
The boy band singer who later went solo and got into acting was driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor around 12:30 am when an officer stopped him and determined he was under the influence of alcohol, according to a court document.
Timberlake, 43, told the policeman he had one martini and was following some friends home, as per the documents.
After being arrested and taken to police custody in nearby East Hampton, he refused a breathalyzer test, said the court papers.
The 10-time Grammy winner was released without bond later Tuesday morning after being produced before a court in Sag Harbor.
He was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, and the court set his next date for hearing on July 26, the Suffolk County district attorney’s office said.
Timberlake’s counsel and representatives did not return requests for comment from The Associated Press immediately.
A young Timberlake began performing as a Disney Mouseketeer, where the cast also included Britney Spears.
He rose to stardom in the boy band NSYNC, and later went solo in 2002 and was one of pop’s most influential figures in the early 2000s.
Timberlake’s greatest hits include “Cry Me A River,” “SexyBack,” “What Goes Around…Comes Around” and “Can’t Stop The Feeling!”
He performed on Super Bowl halftime shows on multiple occasions, including the one with the infamous 2004 “wardrobe malfunction”, when he ripped off a piece of Janet Jackson’s clothing.
