Born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, she adopted the name “Chappell Roan” in honor of her late grandfather Dennis Chappell and his favorite song “The Strawberry Roan” by Marty Robbins, as per Billboard Explains.
Singer-songwriter Chappell Roan skyrocketed to pop stardom over the last one year, garnering attention on social media for her glitzy performances and getting accolades from critics for her campy and upbeat songs.
Since the September 2023 release of her debut studio album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Roan made headlines for her theatrical performances at the Coachella and Gov Ball music fests.
Her rise to fame can be attributed to the viral success of her song “Good Luck Babe” which broke into the Billboard Hot 100.
Her fan base has dramatically grown ever since her first headlining concert in May 2022.
The 26-year-old singer now performs at sold-out venues across the country and has even gained a fan in music legend Elton John.
Chappell Roan’s music skyrocketed in the last couple of months with her singles, “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Red Wine Supernova” and “HOT TO GO” all making to the Billboard Hot 100, along with her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess entering the Billboard 200.
The singer-songwriter rose to pop stardom over the past year, but Chappell has been performing ever since she was a teenager.
Hailing from Willard, Missouri, Chappell started uploading covers on YouTube as a teenager. She wrote her original song “Die Young” at the age of 16 and was signed to Atlantic Records at 17.
She released her first EP “School Nights” in 2017, and later “Pink Pony Club” in 2020.
However, her label deemed her as an unprofitable artist and she lost the contract.
Fast forward to October 2023, Chappell made her debut to the Billboard charts, jumping onto the Emerging Artists Chart at No. 8.
She later went on to become No. 1 for three straight weeks on the same chart since the beginning of May 2024.
Chappell’s rise to pop stardom also did well for her debut studio album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Despite being released in September 2023, the album didn’t enter the Billboard 200 until it debuted at No. 127 in April 2024, soon after her iconic Coachella performance and opening for Olivia Rodrigo on her Guts Tour.
