The Highest Grossing Marvel Films Of All-Time
By TOI Staff November 25, 2022 Update on : November 25, 2022
The Marvel Cinematic Universe really has got it right when turning big-budget movies into massive, profitable machines. If you look at the highest-grossing movies of all-time these days it’s filled with Marvel movies, many of which have gone on to become not just box office smashes, but wider hits too.
The vast majority of franchises within the Marvel Cinematic Universe have gone on to become video games, toys, and even casino games, with a whole heap of online slots named after superhero characters these days, in deals that were both huge for the online casino industry, but also for Marvel itself.
That’s helped expand the popularity of the Marvel movies even more, and it continues to be a juggernaut for them with many casinos around the world, both online and offline offering them.
However, it’s the movies that really rake in the big bucks for the MCU, but which have been the biggest earning since the first Marvel movie hit our screens?
Avengers: Endgame
Released in 2019, Avengers: Endgame completely blew the box office away and became the highest grossing film of all-time until Avatar was re-released in order to get its crown back. Grossing a staggering $2.798billion from a $400million budget, it has set a real precedent for a fifth instalment, whenever that may appear. The ensemble cast, of course, make it what it is. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper to name a few, the film sees the Avengers and allies attempt to reverse the destruction which was caused by Thanos in the Infinity War edition and interestingly was originally going to be named Infinity War – Part 2.
Avengers: Infinity War
And it’s Infinity War that makes second place in the highest-grossing Marvel movies of all-time. Released a year before Endgame in 2018, the movie also broke the $2billion barrier in worldwide gross at the box office. It stars much of the same cast as Endgame, with the movie all about The Avengers trying to prevent Thanos from collecting six, all-powerful Infinity Stones that would ultimately wipe out half of the universe.
It’s a film that draws inspiration from The Infinity Gauntlet comic book released in 1991 alongside Jonathan Hickman’s 2013 comic Infinity, and is certainly a favourite among Marvel fans.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home was only released a few months ago and has shot up the rankings to become the sixth highest grossing movie of all-time, and the third highest Marvel movie.
Grossing a staggering $1.78billion, it was believed that the movie would have broke the $2billion mark had it been released in China, but either way has really set the tempo for the next Spider-Man movie in the franchise, which will undoubtedly be looking to chase down The Avengers.
The Avengers
The Avengers really caused a stir when it hit our screens for the first time way back in 2012, combining the efforts of the likes of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Black Widow to save the world from Thor’s brother Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston.
It came following the big success of Iron Man and Downey Jr. ‘s reprisal of the role in The Avengers really helped sell and turn the franchise into the juggernaut it is today, making a total of $1.52billion at the box office.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
And finally, the only other Avengers movie not to appear yet – Age of Ultron. We’re sure if there was a fifth Avengers film it may have been a clean sweep. Released in 2015, it made just over $1.4billion at the box office and earned relatively positive reviews across the board. At the time it became the fifth highest grossing film of all-time, but has since slipped down to 12th, behind the likes of Frozen II and Furious 7, the latter of which was released in the same year.
