Rapper Killer Mike arrested at Grammys after winning three awards

Rapper Killer Mike was arrested at the Grammy Awards in connection with a physical altercation at the Los Angeles arena on Sunday, reports The New York Times.

The incident took place shortly after the rapper and activist won three Grammy awards, including his first in more than two decades, for best rap performance, best rap song, and best rap album, the police said.

The arrest came after being detained for questioning around 4:00 pm, and Los Angeles police escorted him out of the Grammys venue in connection with the altercation.

Mike, who was born Michael Render, was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a post on social media.

The department said on X, popularly known as Twitter, police detained a man and handcuffed him on Sunday afternoon in connection with a “physical altercation.

Police identified the man as Michael Render, which is Killer Mike’s real name after he was later placed under arrest and taken to LAPD’s Central Division, the department said.

Mike was in the process of being released, police said Sunday night.

Police said in the LAPD post that the altercation occurred in the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court, located in Crypto.com Arena.

However, representatives for the rapper are yet to respond to requests for comment immediately, but the Recording Academy referred questions to the police.

A video posted on social media by a journalist for The Hollywood Reporter showed Killer Mike, in handcuffs, being led through the Crypto.com Arena by a police officer, less than an hour before the Grammys telecast began.

Mike came to Grammy last in 2003 when he won “The Whole World” for best rap performance by a duo or group.
