4.1 magnitude earthquake hits Corona

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook Corona in Riverside County on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake, which struck just 5.3 miles from Corona at 1:49 pm, was initially reported to be magnitude 4.5 but was ultimately reduced to a 4.1, the USGS said, reports CBSnews.com.

An earthquake jolt was felt in the Riverside area while viewers reported shaking in Orange County. According to one viewer, he felt a strong shake in Santa Ana.

KCAL News studios in Studio City, as well as Orange County and West Los Angeles, were affected by the shaker.

According to Dr. Lucy Jones, the quake was located near the Whittier fault… and that’s most likely the source of this earthquake.

There have been no recorded aftershocks, but, there have been roughly a dozen foreshocks that occurred over the past two days, added Dr. Lucy Jones.

According to USGS, a 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Corona area around 2:00 pm on Tuesday while a 2.8 magnitude quake occurred at 7:26 pm and another at 7:41 pm.

The City of Corona reported around 4:00 pm on Wednesday that their survey found no damage within city limits.
