UConn Huskies football team announced to extend a contract with coach Jim Mora as the Huskies kicked off Fenway Bowl against North Carolina on Saturday.

The head football coach has agreed to the new contract for two additional years, the school announced Saturday, adding that it will take Jim Mora through the 2028 season.

Mora, 63, will get $1.7 million next season while $1.9 million for 2026, $2.3 for 2027 and $2.4 million for 2028.

As his extension of the contract will run through 2028, he will pay him $10 million through the remaining four years, in which there will be an opportunity to earn more in incentives.

The 63-year-old coach’s deal comes after he revived UConn football in his first three years at the school.

The coach took over a program before his arrival and has led it to two bowl games in three years. The event went 1-11 in the year.

On Saturday, the 8-4 regular season earned UConn a spot in Wasabi Fenway Bowl against North Carolina.

Mora will lead UConn to its first nine-win season since 2007 and only the third nine-win season in school history if the UConn Huskies win over North Carolina.

Since Bob Diaco, the school’s first bowl game led the Huskies to the St. Petersburg Bowl in 2015; UConn went to the Myrtle Beach Bowl in Mora’s first year in 2022.

The veteran head coach had two stints in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.

As a college head coach, the head coach is in his ninth season. In 2012, Mora, who took the UCLA job, had a successful stint there. Since Mora left, UCLA hasn’t been able to win 10 games in a season.
