A small plane crashed near a major interstate highway and railroad tracks in South Florida on Friday morning, leaving three people dead.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a Cessna 310 with three people on board.

The FAA said in an email that the plane went down around 10:20am after departing from Boca Raton Airport bound for Tallahassee.

Currently, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation. The NTSB is heading the way.

According to local media, the plane was on fire; a large plume of smoke was seen, and firefighters were responding.

The Boca Raton Police said several roads near the Boca Raton Airport were closed near Interstate 95.

According to fire officials, the plane appeared to have pushed a car into the railway lines, causing their closure.

Michael LaSalle, Boca Raton Fire Rescue Assistant Chief said the person inside the vehicle suffered injuries, but there was no risk of life-threatening and was sent to a hospital for further treatment.

Miguel Coka, 51, a witness, said he’s used to seeing planes flying low as they prepare to land. But this time, he and his colleagues noticed something was wrong.
