‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ actress Lily Gladstone wins Golden Globe 2024

Lily Gladstone, an indigenous actress, won the Golden Globes for best female actor in a motion picture drama for her work in the film “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards were held Sunday night, which have made history with their winner the best actress in a motion picture, reports CBC news.

Her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in the film drew rave reviews from critics and movie-goers alike.

Besides Lily Gladstone, Carey Mulligan for Maestro, Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall, Annette Bening for Nyad, Greta Lee for Past Lives, and Cailee Spaeny for Priscilla) were all in the running for the prize.

Gladstone, who grew up on the reservation of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana, is the first indigenous winner in the category.

According to the Golden Globes, it was Gladstone’s first nomination and first win.

Gladstone paid tribute to the Blackfeet Nation after her win by delivering part of her acceptance speech in the Blackfeet language, which is an Algonquian language spoken by the Blackfoot or Niitsitapi people. However, Gladstone later returned to communicating in English.

She said she loves everyone in this room and doesn’t have words.

Gladstone said she just spoke a bit of Blackfeet language that encouraged her to keep going, keep doing this here with her mom who worked tirelessly to get our language into our classroom.  She had a Blackfeet language teacher growing up, the actress said.Gladstone, during her speech, thanked Principal Chief of the Osage Nation Geoffrey M Standing Bear.

She also gave thanks to director and co-writer Martin Scorsese.
