1. Semester GPA Calculator (Unweighted)

The Semester GPA Calculator helps you calculate your GPA for the current semester on the 4.0 or 4.33 scale.

How to Use the Semester GPA Calculator

  1. Add Courses: Click “+ Add Course” to add subjects.

  2. Enter Course Name: Type your subject name (optional).

  3. Enter Credits: Add course credits (e.g., 3 or 4).

  4. Select Grade: Choose your letter grade (A, B+, etc.).

  5. Set Scale (Optional): By default, the calculator uses Standard (A+ = 4.0).
→ You can change this to High Honors (A+ = 4.33) from Advanced → A+ Grade Value.

  6. Add All Courses: Repeat for each subject.

  7. Advanced (Optional): Include your current GPA and credits to calculate a new cumulative GPA.

  8. Calculate: Click “Calculate GPA.”

Formula:

  • Semester Quality Points = Σ(Grade Points × Credits)

  • Semester GPA = Semester Quality Points ÷ Total Credits

  • New Cumulative GPA = (Current GPA × Current Credits + Semester Points) ÷ (Total Credits + New Credits)

Example:

If you take:

  • English (3 cr, A = 4.0)

  • Math (3 cr, B+ = 3.3)

  • Science (4 cr, A− = 3.7)

Semester GPA = (3×4.0 + 3×3.3 + 4×3.7) ÷ 10 = 3.67

2. Weighted GPA Calculator (Regular, Honors, AP/IB)

The Weighted GPA Calculator adds extra value for Honors, AP, or IB classes.
It uses the Standard Scale (A+ = 4.0) by default but supports High Honors (A+ = 4.33) for more accurate results.

How to Use the Weighted GPA Calculator

  1. Add Courses: Click “+ Add Course.”

  2. Enter Course Name: Add each subject (optional).

  3. Enter Credits: Input credit value (e.g., 3 or 4).

  4. Select Grade: Choose your letter grade (A, B+, etc.).

  5. Select Type: Choose Regular (4.0), Honors (4.5), or AP/IB (5.0).

  6. Set Scale (Optional): The default is Standard (A+ = 4.0), but you can switch to High Honors (A+ = 4.33) from Advanced → A+ Grade Value.

  7. Calculate Weighted GPA: Click “Calculate Weighted GPA.”

  8. Advanced (Optional): Include your current GPA and credits for an updated Cumulative GPA.

Formula:

  • Weighted Quality Points = Σ(Weighted Grade Point × Credits)

  • Weighted GPA = Weighted Quality Points ÷ Semester Credits

  • Cumulative GPA = (Current GPA × Current Credits + Weighted Points) ÷ (Total Credits + New Credits)

Example:

  • English (4 cr, A = 4.0 Regular → 4.0)

  • Math (3 cr, A− = 3.7 Honors → 4.2)

  • Science (3 cr, B+ = 3.3 AP → 4.3)

Weighted GPA = (4×4.0 + 3×4.2 + 3×4.3) ÷ 10 = 4.17

3. Target GPA Planner

The Target GPA Planner shows what average GPA you need in upcoming courses to reach your goal.

How to Use the Target GPA Planner

  1. Enter Current GPA: Input your existing GPA.

  2. Enter Total Credits: Add your completed credits.

  3. Set Target GPA: Input your desired cumulative GPA.

  4. Add Additional Credits: Enter how many credits you plan to take.

  5. Calculate: Click “Calculate Needed GPA.”

Formula:

Required GPA =
(Target GPA × (Current Credits + New Credits) − (Current GPA × Current Credits)) ÷ New Credits

Example:

Current GPA = 2.8, Current Credits = 30, Target GPA = 3.2, New Credits = 15

Required GPA = ((3.2×45) − (2.8×30)) ÷ 15 = 4.0

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about GPA calculator. Check the FAQs below.
Q

What GPA scale does this calculator use by default?

By default, this calculator uses the Standard 4.0 GPA Scale, where an A+ equals 4.0. This is the most commonly used grading scale across universities and colleges. However, if your institution uses the High Honors 4.33 Scale, you can easily switch to it from the Advanced → A+ Grade Value option. Once selected, all GPA calculations will automatically adjust to that scale.

Q

Does an A+ count as 4.33 in this calculator?

Yes, it can. If you enable the High Honors Scale (A+ = 4.33) from the Advanced settings, the calculator will use 4.33 as the value for an A+. Under the default Standard Scale, an A+ and A both count as 4.0, since many institutions don’t assign extra points for A+ grades.

Q

Are Pass/Not Pass (P/NP) courses included in GPA calculations?

No, Pass (P) and Not Pass (NP) courses are automatically excluded from GPA calculations. These grades don’t affect your overall GPA since they don’t carry grade points. The calculator intentionally skips them to ensure your GPA reflects only graded coursework.

Q

What’s the highest possible Weighted GPA?

The maximum possible Weighted GPA on this calculator is 5.33, which applies when using the High Honors Scale (A+ = 4.33) with AP or IB courses. This extended range allows students taking advanced or honors-level subjects to achieve recognition for more challenging coursework.

Q

Why does my Target GPA say “Not Possible”?

If the Target GPA planner shows “Not Possible,” it means the required GPA to reach your goal exceeds 5.33, which is the highest achievable even under the High Honors system. In that case, you would need to adjust your goal slightly or complete more high-credit, higher-grade courses to raise your overall average.

Q

What’s the difference between the Standard and High Honors scales?

The Standard Scale caps at 4.0, while the High Honors Scale allows for an A+ value of 4.33. Every other grade value (A, A−, B+, etc.) remains nearly identical. The High Honors scale is typically used by institutions that distinguish between an A and an A+ to reward exceptional performance.

Q

Can I calculate my GPA without using the Advanced options?

Absolutely. You can use the calculator as-is to determine your Semester GPA or Weighted GPA without entering cumulative data. The Advanced options are entirely optional—they’re designed for users who want to factor in previous GPA and credits to project their updated cumulative GPA more precisely.
