Free GPA Calculator (Semester, Weighted & Target GPA)
Are you looking for any tool to calculate your Semester GPA, Weighted GPA, and Target GPA? This article is for you. You will be able to calculate those with this free GPA Calculator. In this case, you will have to simply enter your course names, credits, and grades to get results instantly.
1. Semester GPA Calculator
This will help you to calculate your GPA for the current semester on the 4.0 or 4.33 scale.
How to use the Semester GPA calculator?
Add Courses: Click “+ Add Course” to add subjects.
Enter Course Name: Type your subject name (optional).
Enter Credits: Add course credits (e.g., 3 or 4).
Select Grade: Choose your letter grade (A, B+, etc.).
Set Scale (Optional): By default, the calculator uses Standard (A+ = 4.0). You can change this to High Honours (A+ = 4.33) from Advanced → A+ Grade Value.
Add All Courses: Repeat for each subject.
Advanced (Optional): Include your Current Cumulative GPA and Current Total Credits to calculate a new cumulative GPA.
Calculate: Click “Calculate GPA.”
Formula:
- Semester Quality Points = Σ(Grade Points × Credits)
- Semester GPA = Semester Quality Points ÷ Total Credits
- New Cumulative GPA is calculated as = (Current GPA × Current Credits + Semester Points) ÷ (Total Credits + New Credits)
Example:
If you take:
- English (3 cr, A = 4.0)
- Math (3 cr, B+ = 3.3)
- Science (4 cr, A− = 3.7)
→ Semester GPA = (3×4.0 + 3×3.3 + 4×3.7) ÷ 10 = 3.67
According to the below Grade Points Table (Standard vs High Honours)
Grade Points Table (Standard vs High Honors)
| Letter Grade | Standard (A+ = 4.0) | High Honors (A+ = 4.33) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.00 | 4.33 | Excellent |
| A | 4.00 | 4.00 | Excellent |
| A− | 3.70 | 3.67 | Very Good |
| B+ | 3.30 | 3.33 | Good Plus |
| B | 3.00 | 3.00 | Good |
| B− | 2.70 | 2.67 | Above Average |
| C+ | 2.30 | 2.33 | Fair Plus |
| C | 2.00 | 2.00 | Fair |
| C− | 1.70 | 1.67 | Below Average |
| D+ | 1.30 | 1.33 | Poor Plus |
| D | 1.00 | 1.00 | Poor |
| F | 0.00 | 0.00 | Fail |
| P/NP | — | — | Pass / Not Pass (excluded) |
2. Weighted GPA Calculator (Regular, Honours, AP/IB)
This calculator adds extra value for Honours, AP, or IB classes and uses the Standard Scale (A+ = 4.0) by default, but supports High Honours (A+ = 4.33) for more exact results.
How can we use the Weighted GPA calculator
Add Courses: You should first click “+ Add Course.”
Enter Course Name: Add each subject (but it is optional).
Enter Credits: Here, you should input the credit value (E.G., 3 or 4).
Select Grade: Choose your letter grade (A, B+, etc.).
Select Type: Choose Regular (4.0), Honours (4.5), or AP/IB (5.0).
Set Scale (Optional): The default is Standard (A+ = 4.0), but you can switch to High Honours (A+ = 4.33) from Advanced → A+ Grade Value.
Calculate Weighted GPA: Click “Calculate Weighted GPA.”
Advanced (Optional): Include your Current Cumulative GPA and Current Total Credits for an updated Cumulative GPA.
Formula:
- Weighted Quality Points = Σ(Weighted Grade Point × Credits)
- Weighted GPA = Weighted Quality Points ÷ Semester Credits
- Cumulative GPA = (Current GPA × Current Credits + Weighted Points) ÷ (Total Credits + New Credits)
Example:
- English (4 cr, A = 4.0 Regular → 4.0)
- Math (3 cr, A− = 3.7 Honors → 4.2)
- Science (3 cr, B+ = 3.3 AP → 4.3)
- → Weighted GPA = (4×4.0 + 3×4.2 + 3×4.3) ÷ 10 = 4.17
Weighted GPA Scale Table
| Course Type | Base Scale (A+ = 4.0) | High Honors (A+ = 4.33) | Max Possible |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | 4.0 | 4.33 | 4.33 |
| Honors | 4.5 | 4.83 | 4.83 |
| AP/IB | 5.0 | 5.33 | 5.33 |
3. Target GPA Planner
The target GPA planner shows how much average GPA you need in upcoming courses to achieve your goal.
How can we use the Target GPA Planner?
- Enter Current GPA: Provide your existing GPA.
- Enter Total Credits: Add all completed credits.
- Set Target GPA: Enter your desired cumulative GPA.
- Add Additional Credits: Input how many credits you plan to take.
- Calculate: Click “Calculate Needed GPA.”
Formula:
- Required GPA= (Targeted GPAx ( Current Credits + New Credits)-
- Required GPA = (Target GPA × (Current Credits + New Credits) − (Current GPA × Current Credits)) ÷ New Credits
Example:
- Current GPA = 2.8, Current Credits = 30, Target GPA = 3.2, New Credits = 15
- → Required GPA = ((3.2×45) − (2.8×30)) ÷ 15 = 4.0

Frequently Asked Questions
QWhich GPA scale does this calculator use by default?
This calculator uses the Standard 4.0 GPA Scale by default, where an A+ equals 4.0. This is the most commonly used grading scale in universities and colleges.
However, the candidate can easily switch to it from the Advanced → A+ Grade Value option if your institution uses the High Honours 4.33 Scale. All GPA calculations will be adjusted automatically once you select a scale.
QCan you tell me that an A+ count as 4.33 in this calculator?
Yes, it can do. The calculator will use 4.33 as the value for an A+ if you enable the High Honours Scale (A+ = 4.33) from the advanced settings. Under the default Standard Scale, many institutions do not assign extra points for A+ grades; both an A+ and an A are counted as 4.0.
QDo Pass or Not Pass (P or NP) courses count in GPA calculations?
No, Pass (P) and Not Pass (NP) courses are not included in GPA calculations automatically. As a result, these grades do not affect your overall GPA since they do not hold grade points. The calculator skips them deliberately so that your GPA reflects only graded coursework.
QWhat do we know about the highest possible Weighted GPA?
This calculator can produce the maximum possible Weighted GPA 5.33 while using the High Honours Scale (A+ = 4.33) with AP or IB courses. By taking advanced or honours-level subjects, students can achieve recognition for more challenging coursework under this extended range.
QIs there any reason why my Target GPA say “Not Possible”?
If the Target GPA planner shows “Not Possible,” it means the required GPA to reach your goal exceeds 5.33, which is the highest achievable even under the High Honors system. In that case, you would need to adjust your goal slightly or complete more high-credit, higher-grade courses to raise your overall average.
QWhat is the difference between the Standard and High Honours scales?
While the High Honours Scale allows for an A+ value of 4.33, the Standard Scale caps at 4.0. Every other grade value (A, A−, B+, etc.) remains nearly identical. Those institutions that distinguish between an A and an A+ to reward exceptional performance use the High Honours scale.
QCan I calculate my GPA without utilising the Advanced options?
Absolutely. Without entering cumulative data, any can use the calculator as-is to determine their Semester GPA or Weighted GPA. The Advanced options are optional. They are intended for users who want to use their prior GPA and credits to project their updated cumulative GPA more quite.
