Detroit Pistons star Isaiah Stewart was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly punching his opponent Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks hours before the teams began the NBA game.

The Phoenix Police Department said in a release that the fight broke out in the parking lot area of Footprint Center in Phoenix around 4:45 pm (local time), reports NBC news.

Security directed Eubanks, 27, and Stewart, 22, when officers arrived at the scene.

However, Stewart was released after being issued a citation, according to a news release from the Phoenix Police Department.

Eubanks is a forward for the Suns while Stewart is in his fourth season with the Pistons.

Officers at Footprint Center in Phoenix have been called to a fight between the two players in the tunnel of the arena’s parking lot, said police.

An argument took place between the two players and at one stage, Stewart punched Eubanks, leaving him with a minor injury, police say. Later, police separated the two players.

Phoenix Police said detectives responded to investigate the incident and collect evidence. The investigation remains active, they added.

Drew Eubanks’ attack was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable, a Suns spokesperson told CNN.

In a statement, the Pistons said the team was “aware” of the incident between the two players.

The team said they are responding to the NBA and local authorities and are in the process of gathering information about what happened.
