FIFA World Cup 2022 kicks off in Qatar

The 22nd edition of the global football tournament, FIFA World Cup 2022, started in Qatar on Sunday.

Qatar became the first home team to lose in the World Cup opener as Ecuador beat the host nation 2–0.

The opening match of the championship in Qatar started at 7 pm (Qatar time). The opening match was held between Qatar and Ecuador at Al-Bayt Stadium. These two football-playing nations faced each other and both of the teams are from Group A.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on November 21, but it was brought forward along with the opening match. This was to preserve the tradition of the first game featuring the hosts or the defending champions.

The ceremony took place live from the 60,000-seater Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.

The opening match was broadcast live on BBC in the UK. It will be broadcast on FOX and Telemundo in the US The opening ceremony was shown before the opening game.

The group stage matches are scheduled to run across numerous fields in Qatar between November 20 and December 2.

Qatar won the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010.
