Is James Maddison the Player to Watch This Season?

James Maddison recently completed a £40 million move to Tottenham Hotspur, and now he will be looking to take his game to the next level.

Likely to be the key creative cog in Ange Postecoglou’s exciting attack, the Englishman has the chance to cement his place in Gareth Southgate’s thinking for Euro 2024. Indeed, it could even result in the England manager changing his tactics to accommodate the number 10.

Maddison Could Be a Huge Signing for Spurs

When staking on the Premier League winner this season, punters are unlikely to have much interest in Spurs. However, if Maddison has his best season ever and makes it impossible for the Three Lions boss to ignore him, England may need to test out a new formation.

Maddison was named in the England squad for the last World Cup, but Southgate couldn’t fit him into his thinking. He made his debut in March 2023 and has put in three stellar performances for his country so far.

The great thing about the Spurs man is that he offers an exciting alternative for Southgate if the manager needs to mix things up in the next major competition. For instance, if England come up against a team playing a low block that they can’t get through, Maddison’s attributes could allow them to pick the lock. It’s useful to know that the 27-year-old is there and ready to come on if England need him.

Maddison could be a hugely thrilling player to watch this football season, as he has now linked up with one of the most formidable attacks in the division. If he shines in the Premier League this term, he’ll most certainly be on the plane for the Euros next summer.
