Dan Bongino, appointed by US President Donald Trump as deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is a podcaster and American conservative political commentator.
Bongino, 50, the radio host, and author, has worked for the New York police department and the Secret Service.
He is a loyal Trump ally who has pushed false claims about the 2020 election and other stories.
In a post on social media, Trump said Bongino was a man of incredible love and passion for the US.
He would serve the country under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.
His appointment does not require Senate confirmation. It means neither of the top two people running the agency has FBI experience.
The deputy director is usually a career agent with years of experience. He is responsible for supervising all domestic and international operations.
He hosts a daily podcast The Dan Bongino Show. His Facebook posts often attract more attention.
A segment on Friday’s episode praised Patel. He tried to ease Democratic concerns that the agency would be used to attack Trump’s enemies.
Trump also said Bongino would give up the podcast.
He would help restore fairness, justice, law and order, added Trump in his social media announcement on Sunday.
Bongino has run for Congress three times. He hosted Trump on his podcast ahead of last year’s election.
There are 38,000 FBI employees and a budget of over $11bn.
