Princess Diana gave birth to William when she was just 21 and Harry when she was 23.

The marriage of then Prince Charles and Lady Diana was held on July 29, 1981, marking one of the highest points in the popularity of the Royal Family.

At least 750 million people in 74 countries witnessed the union on television. In the UK, a public holiday had been declared, and around 28.4 million watched the programme live on BBC. Meanwhile, about 600,000 lined up on the streets of London to see the couple.

The Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash 16 years later in central Paris along with her close friend Dodi Fayed on August 31, 1997.

In the years following his mother’s death, Prince William spoke candidly about the loss in his life and the lasting impact it had on him.

Prince William was 15 years old at the time of Diana’s passing. “Losing a parent is something that never leaves you,” he said.

In 2017, he told a BBC One documentary, “I still have shock within me – people say it can’t last that long but it does.”

While speaking to GQ in the same year, he echoed the sentiment. During the interview, William praised Charles for his life’s work and Diana for the causes she championed in her short life.
